Ever since JNNSM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission) was announced in September 2009 by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, there have been a lot of activities across the country with special growth of solar industry in Gujarat and Rajasthan where combined installed capacity is approx. 1,500MWs. This includes both JNNSM and state policies of Gujarat and Rajasthan as well.
Odisha is also not left behind with its eight 1MWp of solar PV project under RPSSGP scheme and one 5MWp of solar PV under NVVN Batch 1 of Phase I, and out of 2 nos. 25MW state tender for solar PV IPPs, 2 developer successfully signing PPA with GRIDCO for 5MW and 25MW each respectively.
But at the same time the State of Odisha needs to re-christen the industry for its holistic development including Solar IPPs, Solar Off-Grid/Roof-top installation, agriculture oriented Solar Pumping, component manufacturing and ancillary industry to further bring down the cost. There are numbers of prospective local investors who can be roped in for being an integral part of this holistic development of the industry by putting either solar power projects (both PV and Thermal) or component manufacturing plants. With consistent efforts, like that of Odisha Solar Conference 2012, Green Energy Deployment Corporation of Odisha Limited (GEDCOL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), came into existence for development of Renewable Energy in Odisha.
In order to further accelerate the process, TiE (The Indus Entrepreneur), Bhubaneswar Chapter and Canyon Consultancy Pvt. Ltd have again come together to organize the Second Edition of Solar Conference in Bhubaneswar on 8th November 2013 to promote and create awareness amongst the local investors about the benefits from this industry. This conference is in association with Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC), IPICOL, Team Odisha, GRIDCO Ltd., etc.
